I have to say that in my case these were just the perfect solution! Since I bought them recently, I don't know what the issue with the tabs was, but they work just fine these days.

Here's the background...

I have a 19 year old kitty who is the love of my life (I know, can you say "cat lady?") and he recently became completely blind. :( While he doesn't suffer from incontinence, the place is relatively large and he often can't find his way to the box. So, after going around in circles or zigzagging the room for a while, he will finally just pee.

After the second time I saw this happen, I decided that I needed to try something quickly. I had originally purchased these about 9 months ago, for a diabetic cat I had who passed on last year. That cat wouldn't let me even try to get the diapers on him. He would fight and scream, you would think I was trying to kill him! April 2009: The medium size works pretty well for our dog, a 32 lb standard poodle who is on the tall and thin side for a dog of that weight. We put a cloth diaper over the disposable diaper just to help keep the disposable diaper on. She has emptied her bladder in a diaper only a few times. On all but one occasion the diaper held all of the urine and didn't leak. She doesn't mind wearing them and they give me peace of mind! By the way, she found the cloth diaper plus pad uncomfortable--that's why I tried the combination approach.

August 2009: Now that our dog empties her bladder more than once during the night or while we're at work, we've had to change to baby diapers, in her case Huggies Overnight, size 6. It doesn't take too long to cut a hole for her tail. The main inconvenience is the tabs working the opposite way--they attach around her tummy instead of her back.
